We here at Crossroads Automotive are staffed with auto service technicians that have vast experience in repairing diesel engines. We are a full-service auto shop that works with both diesel and gasoline vehicles. We come across common diesel engine problems regularly, and, as such, diagnosis and repair are quick and easy. Few things in a diesel engine leave us stumped. Let’s talk about how we can fix your diesel engine problems below.
Hard to Start
Getting the diesel engine started should never be extremely difficult. If you have found that your diesel automobile cranks more before the engine fires up, we can replace the glow plugs if they have gone bad. Difficulty starting the vehicle is a sign of a glow plug problem. It can also be a sign that the diesel engine is overdue for much-needed maintenance that will help it fire up and run efficiently.
Loss of Power
If your diesel engine keeps losing power, you may have a fuel-related problem that we need to fix. For example, if the fuel injectors are being clogged by carbon deposits, the engine may not be getting enough fuel. You may also have a dirty fuel filter or an issue with the fuel pump. We will diagnose the reason why the diesel engine is not producing its normal power and fix it.
Excessive Exhaust
Too much exhaust is also a sign of a fuel problem. In this case, there is too much fuel in the diesel engine’s combustion chamber and the excess fuel is being burned away. If the air filter is clogged, you will end up with too much fuel and too little air in the combustion chamber. Excess fuel can also make its way into the chamber if the fuel injectors have cracked and are leaking.
Oxidized Motor Oil
This problem generally only happens if your diesel automobile has not been driven in months. As the oil sits inside of the engine, it starts to fill with tiny air bubbles. This is called oxidation. Unfortunately, if the oxidized oil circulates through the diesel engine, it can damage it. To prevent this from happening, have your diesel vehicle towed to our shop so we can change the oil if it hasn’t been driven.
Noisy Engine
Finally, if your diesel engine is making more noise than it normally does, or if it is making strange noises, it’s a good idea to have the vehicle towed to our shop so we can determine the cause of the unusual sounds. For example, the engine may knock loudly or make strange grinding or squealing sounds. Depending on the noise, driving the automobile could damage the engine.
